National Outreach for Low Power FM Radio begins..

Now that we’ve passed the Local Community Radio Act, the Prometheus Radio Project is launching a national outreach campaign to educate the public around the opportunities for low power FM (LPFM) radio stations in our communities. We need your help to spread the word!

For the first time in ten years, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will soon be accepting applications for new LPFM station. Prometheus is working with a national coalition of media organizations, community leaders, engineers, and other community media advocates to do outreach. You're invited to join and help organize communities around this opportunity. Our goal is to support a large, diverse group of LPFM license applicants and to get underrepresented groups on the airwaves.

We are also looking for volunteers, both to conduct outreach across the country and to work in our Philadelphia office connecting potential low power FM applicants with resources. In May we will launch a new internship program for those who want to work in Philadelphia on a wide range of projects. Keep your eyes out for more details about interning with Prometheus in the upcoming Prometheus Radio Broadcasts or check back on our volunteer page.

5 Things You Can Do to Help Spread the Word
1. Tell local community organizations about LPFM and how a radio station might support their work.
2. Host an event in your town to let people know about this opportunity. We are happy to attend if we can, or we can put you in touch with others in your area in our database.
3. Volunteer or intern with Prometheus Radio Project to help with outreach events and organizing.
4. Attend a conference or training as a Prometheus "street team" ambassador and distribute information to the participants.

5. Join the LPFM outreach coalition!

Prometheus is coming to your town!

Prometheus will be hitting the road over the coming year to spread the word about LPFM. To kick off our outreach, we will be co-hosting several LPFM Awards events with our partner, Free Press, for the legislative sponsors of the Local Community Radio Act. We'll also be doing outreach workshops and presenting at several media conferences.  Let us know if you’d like to participate in these events!
